Hot Yoga 101

Drink, Drink, Drink – water that is! Aim to drink at least two litres of water a day. Not will this only help your yoga practice it will flush out toxins and assist with weight loss and bloating.  When we get our yoga sweat on we are flush out the nasty toxins our body does not need, which makes us feel oh so good after class!! We also sweat out some of the natural electrolytes the body needs. It is important to drink lots of water but to really boost our hot yoga performance we must also hydrate with electrolytes. Coconut water is a great source of electrolytes, pop some in your morning green smoothie. Add some electrolytes to your daily fluid intake and your body will love you for it.


Nourish your body, eat real whole foods to fuel your body. Practicing yoga creates a deeper connection with what’s happening inside your body. You will quickly discover what foods disrupt your body’s natural balance. Your body will feel a whole lot better practicing yoga if you avold eating two hours before class.


I’m just here for savasana

You may not be able to control the heat in the room or how long a posture is held but you control the most important thing your breathing!! When you control your breathing you control your heart rate and your mind, and any anxieties are easier to combat when we slow down and focus. Inhale the good stuff, exhale any stale energy, thoughts and emotions that don’t serve you. Slowing down is sometimes the hardest thing of all. Yoga is not a race or a competition.Lay down in savasana, focus on your breathing. You rock that pose, and join back in when you are ready.

Be Kind

The moment you stop comparing yourself to front row bendy Betty, is the moment you will step into that real yoga zone. Let go of any ego. Be patient. You don’t have to touch your toes or stand on your head to do yoga. Listen to your body. Be kind to yourself.

Don’t take yourself too seriously

It’s only yoga! Yes some pretty serious stuff goes on when we practice yoga and this creates amazing changes physically, mentally and emotionally. Put a smile on your face in yoga, lighten up and enjoy your practice. There’s enough serious stuff outside the yoga room. Have fun!
